APPLICATIONS
Gelman BioGuard Class II Type C1 Laminar Flow Biological Safety Cabinets are commonly referred to as ‘ Convertible ‘ biological safety cabinets designed to provide a high degree of personnel, product and environment protection for work with low to moderate risk biological agents that require Biosafety Level 1, 2 or 3 containment.
The BioGuard Class II Type C1 Biological Safety Cabinets can operate in a recirculating Type A mode and convert to a ducted Type B mode without having to change or modify the units when application changes over time.
When operating in the recirculating Type A mode, the cabinets are suitable for standard microbiological use or where no chemical hazards are present . For work involving higher volume of volatiles eg. chemical vapours, gaseous chemicals, hazardous vapours etc. than are commonly allowed by a Class II Type A2 biological safety cabinet, the ducted Type B mode can be selected. Work is done in the direct exhaust, dedicated centre section of the work tray with no recirculation in the downflow air.
OPERATION
The BioGuard Class II Type C1 cabinets maintain a minimum average inflow velocity of 100 fpm through the work access opening.
An effective air barrier between the operator and the work zone, maintained by an inflow of room air into a full-width front grille in the work opening provides personnel and environment protection.
The barrier air blends with approximately 40% of the contaminated work area air in a sump beneath the work surface and is partially recirculated back to the work area through a supply HEPA filter on top of the work zone.
The recirculated air is HEPA-filtered to create a biological-clean work environment for product protection.
An integrated exhaust fan exhausts the remaining contaminated work area air of approximately 60% via the dedicated centre section of the work tray.
The exhaust air is HEPA-filtered and discharged back into the room in the recirculating Type A mode or through a canopy exhaust connection in the ducted Type B mode.
The BioGuard Class II Type C1 cabinets have all biologically contaminated ducts and plenums under negative pressure.
The GELMAN ZERO-LEAK airflow system ensures that all positive pressure zones are surrounded by negative pressure zones to contain potentially-hazardous aerosols.
