PCR-LAF Class 100 Series Vertical Laminar Flow Cabinets
The PCR-LAF cabinets can be selected to operate in the non-ventilated or ventilated laminar flow mode to provide a controlled work environment with ISO Class 5 (Class 100) air
cleanliness to perform polymerase chain reaction experiments.
In the ventilated mode, ambient air is drawn in through an easily accessible prefilter on top of the cabinet to trap large particles.
The prefiltered air is introduced to the work area through a final HEPA filter which comprises the top of the work zone.
The HEPA-filtered air is continuously projected over the entire work surface to provide a non-turbulence, particulate-free work environment before discharged to the laboratory through the work opening.
During the PCR process, the downflow air is redirected to discharge via the rear exhaust grille when the work opening cover is fully closed.
APPLICATIONS
Gelman PCR cabinets are widely used in polymerase chain reaction experiments for clinical and diagnostic works. The cabinets are designed to provide a high degree of product / apparatus protection for RNA / DNA application.
The cabinets protect users from harmful UV & Beta radiation during the PCR experiments.
Gelman PCR cabinets are available in :

PCR-BSC Class II Type A2 Series Biological Safety Cabinets
Gelman PCR-BSC Polymerase Chain Reaction Class II Type A2 Biological Safety Cabinets provide a high degree of personnel, product / apparatus and environment protection when performing polymerase chain reaction experiments on work with low to moderate risk biological agents that require Biosafety Level 1, 2 or 3 containment.
When ventilated to the outside atmosphere via a facility exhaust system after HEPA filtration, the cabinets are suitable for work with biological agents treated with minute quantities of volatile toxic chemicals and trace amounts of radionuclides that will not interfere with the work if recirculated in the downflow air.
OPERATION
Gelman PCR-BSC Class II Type A2 cabinets maintain a minimum average inflow velocity of 100 fpm through the work access opening.
An effective air barrier between the operator and the work zone, maintained by an inflow of room air into a full-width front grille in the work opening provides personnel and environment protection.
The barrier air blends with the contaminated work area air in a sump beneath the work surface and is partially recirculated back to the work area through a supply HEPA filter on top of the work zone.
During the PCR process, the barrier air is drawn into a full-width airflow slots located in the front of the air grille when the window sash is fully closed.
The recirculated air is HEPA-filtered to create a biological-clean work environment for product / apparatus protection.
The remaining contaminated work area air is exhausted to the laboratory or outside atmosphere after HEPA filtration.
Gelman PCR-BSC Class II Type A2 cabinets have all biologically contaminated ducts and plenums under negative pressure.
The air flow system ensures that all positive pressure zones are surrounded by negative pressure zones to contain potentially-hazardous aerosols.
